I am an other and Ithaca is elsewhere
Ten years after his last appearance on the Greek art scene, the artist George Koumouros presents his new series of works, created during the period 2018-2023. The exhibition is a set of snapshots of thoughts and reflections on the dystopian environment of contemporary society and express the anguish of a man trapped by his own creations. The works illustrate traffic signs with compulsory routes, speed limits and one-way streets, symbols of the system, festive flags, racing banners and remote-controlled mechanical beings, just as society ends up when it insists on labelling people, arranging them in all kinds of structures and sleeping soundly that it too has done its duty. Communities in sober sleep under the light of summer projections on the starry sky screen. Only with the self-awareness that solidarity inspires will each fellow human being be able to contribute to the progress of humanity.
